When to Go

Peak Season: June to August

Summers are warm, with temperatures in the mid-70s to mid-80s. High humidity in the eastern part of the state can make it feel a lot hotter; the summer climate in western North Dakota is milder. This is also peak tornado season. Prices are reasonable year-round but spike a bit, as do the crowds, during summer months.

Off Season: November to mid-April

Winters can come early and stay late, and usually see freezing temperatures and a lot of snowfall.

Shoulder Season: mid-April to May; September to October

Spring and autumn are the windiest seasons. Spring can be rainy and often starts late. September is a great time to visit; it’s less crowded than summer but still warm. Temperatures begin to drop rapidly come October.
