6 acres of ohia and fern forest offer guests at this luxury eco-retreat a relaxed, private setting specifically for gay men who are visiting the Big Island. The octagonal Polynesian-style bungalows are posh and comfy, set upon beautifully manicured lawns accentuated with tropical plants. Hosts Robert and Scott have created a memorable experience that they themselves couldn’t find on the Big Island.
You Should Know Though the Wi-Fi is free, it is satellite provided, due to the secluded nature of the area. Hopefully you’re not spending too much time on your computer, but just be aware that it can be affected by bad weather.

Room
Each of the retreat’s bungalows are constructed using eco-friendly methods and have a Polynesian feel to them. Luxury and ecology were at the forefront of the construction of these rooms, and each room has a TV, refrigerator, lanai, fireplace, and dining area. And when it’s bedtime, guests will be treated to a king-size bed with DREAM foam mattress and Egyptian cotton sheets.
Tip Guests have the option of early or late check out if needed, just ask your hosts!
Bathroom
The bathrooms are fairly small to allow for plenty of lounging room in the structure, but they’re chic and the showers are exquisite.
Pool
There is a 6-person hot tub inside of a bamboo gazebo.
Spa
The retreat has an on-call massage therapist that offers treatments in your bungalow, one of the gazebos, or on the lawn.
Dining
There is no on-site restaurant, but a hot breakfast is served each day with both indoor and outdoor (inside a bamboo gazebo) seating options. Fresh brewed coffee is served directly on your lanai each morning.

Getting Around
You’ll need a car to get to the retreat and around the island.
Restaurants
Jackie Rey’s Ohana Grill (38-minute drive) is a fun, higher end restaurant set inside a former bank (the old vault is still there) with seafood specialties, Hawaiian favorites, and an excellent happy hour. Head into Hilo for a laid back, but dressier dinner that features local flavors and a great sushi menu at Hilo Bay Café (35-minute drive), overlooking the ocean.
Bars
There aren’t many places on the east side of the island that will give you that sit by the ocean with an umbrella drink in your hand vibe, but Hula Hula’s (35-minute drive) inside the Grand Naniloa Hotel is definitely one of them. Find a seat on the patio at Pineapple’s (36-minute drive) for nice cocktails made with fresh, local ingredients. Yes, they even have a cocktail served to you INSIDE a pineapple.
