Why We Like It

From the moment you arrive, greeted by palm trees and a giant whale art piece, the tropical vibe runs throughout. The grounds are beautiful, the condos are nice, and the views are stunning. The proximity to the main tourist stretch in Kona is also a bonus.

Room

Rooms vary based on size and view, as does décor, based on each individual owner’s taste. Each unit has a large lanai, full kitchen, free WiFi, and washer/dryer.

Tip Though there is a pretty big difference in price for the ocean front rooms, if you’ll be spending extra time at your condo, this is on thing to splurge on. It’s particularly nice if you’ll be cooking in a lot, you’ll be guaranteed an ocean view on your lanai – you may not get that at a restaurant!

Bathroom

Bathrooms come with bath/shower combos and are a bit on the smaller side, some with single vanities, others with double.

Lobby

The small open-air lobby is bright and charming and includes comfy furniture and a ping pong table to occupy your party during check-in. The reception desk is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

You Should Know Outrigger managed units include a mandatory departure cleaning cost ranging from $125 to $225 (raising to $150 to $250 in 2019), based upon the size of the unit. Daily housekeeping services are an additional fee.

Pool

There are two average-sized outdoor swimming pools, one with hot tub, both located along the oceanfront allowing for stunning sunset views.

Gym

Though there is no on-site gym, there is a tennis court available.

Restaurants

At Lava Lava Beach Club (43-min drive) you’ll find a menu that includes happy hour specials, daily fish preparations, and island twists on classic foods like hamburgers and ribs all right on the beach. The bar is also a huge draw, with delicious and strong cocktails (the “Big Bamboocha” will definitely get your vacation started well) and a nice wine menu.

Pueo’s Osteria (47-min drive) offers farm to table Italian-inspired fare that, while it isn’t what you’d think of as Hawaiian food, includes some local favorites like Hamakua mushrooms and lilikoi cheesecake. A lovely wine menu and a late-night happy hour with limited food menu for night owls from 9:30 p.m. to midnight make this a great spot to wine and dine.

Bars

With lava flow and mai tai flights (they have 10 different kinds), there’s plenty to love at Don’s Mai Tai Bar (4-min drive). Thursday nights are particularly fun as they host a weekly Hawaiian music series.

The Big Island’s newest brewery, community-owned Ola Brewery (11-min drive), offers brewery tours and tastes. Be sure to try the White Pineapple Cider!
