Vancouver's Best Food Trucks

The food truck phenomenon has taken up wheels in Vancouver and a growing number of mobile kitchens has taken to the streets, selling fresh juices, spicy tacos, down-home barbecue, freshly caught seafood, and more. Needless to say, the assortment is as eclectic as the region’s multicultural mix. Most trucks operate downtown during the lunch hours, generally from 11 or 11:30 until 2:30 or 3, although when they sell out, they close up for the day. Some trucks roll into town only on weekdays. The best way to find what truck is where is to check the local street food app (www.streetfoodapp.com/vancouver). These are some top hits.

Feastro. This purple "rolling bistro" serves local seafood tacos, sweet-potato fries, soups, and other options. It's usually found at two Downtown locations: one on West Cordova Street at Thurlow Street, near the Vancouver Convention Centre; the other on Howe Street outside the Vancouver Art Gallery (www.feastro.ca).

The Juice Truck. Freshly squeezed juices and fruit smoothies are available at the corner of Abbott Street and Water Street in Gastown (www.thejuicetruck.ca).

Mogu. For Japanese street eats like spicy karaage (Japanese boneless fried chicken), pork katsu (cutlet) sandwiches, or vegetarian kabocha korokke (pumpkin croquette), look for this truck Downtown on Howe Street at Dunsmuir Street and at the summertime Richmond Night Market (www.eatmogu.com).

Mom's Grilled Cheese Truck. Triple-decker grilled cheese sandwiches (made with love, of course) can be had at Howe Street at Robson Street Downtown (www.twitter.com/momsgrilledchz).

Soho Road Naan Kebab. Dishing up Indian butter chicken and vegetable sabji (a vegetarian curry) served in a naan wrap, this truck parks Downtown at the corner of Granville and West Georgia streets, perfect for a shopping break (www.facebook.com/EatSohoRoad).

Tacofino. Chicken karaage in a taco? Why not. You can also find more classic options like pork al pastor or a huge vegetarian burrito at this truck, found weekdays Downtown outside the Burrard SkyTrain station, at Burrard Street and Dunsmuir (www.tacofino.com).
