Astwood Arms

At this Victorian-style bar and restaurant renovated from a former jewelry shop, the menu lists traditional gastropub offerings including Scotch eggs and balti chicken pie (flaky pastry filled with spiced chicken). It is also a surprisingly child-friendly spot, with a kids' menu that features mini burgers, fish fingers, and grilled chicken with peas. Kids also eat free all day on Saturday with a paying adult. But on evenings and weekends, the large, impressively decorated wooden bar that dominates an entire side of the room fills up with happy hour and late-night revelers.

Hog Penny Pub

Veterans of London pub crawls may feel nostalgic at this dark, wood-filled watering hole off Front Street where you can enjoy old-style British comfort food and the ambience of Hamilton's oldest licensed establishment, opened in 1957. Imported ales as well as local craft beers from Dockyard Brewing Company are on offer to pair with your homemade shepherd's pie, fish-and-chips, or bangers and mash. The Sunday brunch also features a traditional Sunday roast. A small stage often hosts live music; call ahead to find out more about nightly entertainment.

Somerset Country Squire

$$

Overlooking Mangrove Bay, this well-worn tavern is all dark wood and good cheer, with a great deal of malt and hops in between. The food is simple, but a few items stand out: the Bermuda fish chowder, panfried rockfish, and steak sandwich are all delicious. In-house nightly specials are another draw, as are the occasional live musicians and casual barbecues. The scenic view of the beach, dock, and moored boats is also unique. Call to confirm lunch availability during the off-season.
