4 Best Restaurants in The Southern Out Islands, Bahamas

Chez Pierre Bahamas

$$ Fodor's choice

At this airy oceanfront restaurant a few steps from the beach, Chef Pierre has been serving sumptuous cuisine since 2002. This curmudgeonly chef serves the best food on the island, hands down. Specialties include pasta dishes with shrimp and scallops, fresh fish, and pizzas to die for. Bahamian lobster, steaks, and chicken, along with vegetarian dishes, are also available, and the salads (big enough to share) are both fresh and beautiful. A full bar is available on the honor system, and you're expected to get your own drinks because Pierre runs the place almost single-handedly. The surly host greets you himself; make sure you are on time for your reservation or he'll be tempted not to serve you at all! But pay no mind, as the food is well worth it, and there is a smile hidden deep beneath his brusque outer shell. To get here, watch for the sign on Queen's Highway between the settlements of Weymss and Millers.

Guanahani Beach Club Restaurant

$$$$ Fodor's choice

At this resort restaurant, fresh fruit smoothies, panini on crusty French bread, fresh salads, and various authentic four-course Italian dinners are all made to order by owner/chef Elena Sparta. Try the mille-feuille of smoked salmon and tomatoes; fettuccine with crab; shrimp with lime, basil, and herbs; lemon and rosemary risotto; or duck breast in Cointreau and orange sauce. The outside patio is beautiful and overlooks stunning Snow Bay; inside, you'll find an all-white contemporary dining room and bar complete with couches and coffee tables for lounging. It's a superb, romantic addition to dining in The Family Islands; however, call ahead as hotel guests take preference and they may be booked up.

S sinn L Restaurant & Bar Lounge

$ | Matthew Town Fodor's choice
The best spot to dine and even party is at S sinn L in Matthew Town, which becomes Inagua's dance hot spot on the weekend. In a comfortable, smart, air-conditioned dining room, you can enjoy delicious fresh Bahamian breakfasts, lunches, and dinners with some American fare as well. The bar gets lively, too, so take a chance to enjoy some local beer or rum and coke or the more exotic Bahama Mama. Dance to live calypso and Bahamian Goombay.

Shannas Cove Restaurant

$$$$ Fodor's choice

This resort restaurant boasts a beautiful towering view above the sea and the north point of the island and offers three meals a day on the breezy veranda or in the cool interior. The German owners take their European cuisine seriously, and they please and surprise hotel guests and those from other resorts who drive far to dine here. Replete with homemade breads, cheeses, viands, and fruits (or eggs cooked to order), breakfast is a delight, while the lunch menu features large fresh salads and homemade 12-inch pizzas. Dinner's three-course menu varies nightly and might include rack of lamb, pork tenderloin, steaks, lobster, or grilled fish. Dinner typically begins with cocktails at 7 pm, followed by serving of the set menu. Call well in advance. The cocktails and coffee at the bar are also good.
