Why We Like It

When we’re looking for space and convenience, Homewood Suites is an excellent choice. The kitchen is a lifesaver to prepare some meals in this expensive town. And you can't beat a complimentary buffet breakfast or dinner.

Fodor's Expert Review

A Hilton reliable, the recently renovated Homewood Suites on Thomas Circle in downtown D.C. offers clean, spacious suites, excellent service and a convenient location near Dupont Circle and the White House (the National Mall is a bit of a farther walk). Perks include a complimentary breakfast and evening social, a kitchenette, a small gym, and a coin laundry. It’s perfect for families and large groups, and anyone staying an extended period.

Tip There’s a Whole Foods market four blocks away to stock up the fridge. Or use the hotel's complimentary grocery shopping service.

Each standard, no-frills guest room is a one-bedroom suite with either one king or two queens, sleeping three to five. A separate living room/kitchen includes a pullout couch, kitchen area with refrigerator, stovetop burners, sink, and microwave. Kitchen utensils are included as well, including pots and pans, coffee pot, toaster, place settings for four, etc.

You Should Know The front rooms face Massachusetts Avenue and can be noisy. You might want to ask for a side or rear room.

Bathroom

The standard bathroom, located off the bedroom, includes a bathtub/shower combo, sink, and a vanity mirror over the sink. Neutrogena bath products are provided.

Lobby

The modern-looking lobby has tables and sofas for relaxing and gathering, along with a coffee and tea bar available throughout the day. The spacious breakfast area with seating is off to the side.

Gym

The tiny gym is, well, tiny.

Dining

There’s no restaurant, but the hotel offers guests a complimentary breakfast and dinner (a.k.a. Manager’s Welcome Home Reception, with a light entrée, offered Monday through Thursday). The food’s not great, but this is a good option for anyone on a tight budget.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Homewood Suites is located on Thomas Circle, near downtown D.C. and on the edge of trendy 14th Street. The White House, major monuments, and museums and a wide selection of local restaurants and bars are within easy walking distance. Your best bet for public transportation is Metro, with the McPherson Square Metro Station just three blocks away.

Restaurants

Daily Grill (10-minute walk) is a classic American grill with a large menu of Americana (popcorn shrimp with remoulade, chicken pot pie, fudge brownie ice cream sundaes) at a reasonable price. Ted's Bulletin (14-minute walk) on 14th Street also serves up classic American fare, but with a twist: the sloppiest Joe, short rib Sammy (Vermont white cheddar, arugula, horseradish mayo), meatloaf sandwich with BBQ sauce, Tillamook cheddar and sunny-side egg. They also have lighter options and a kids' menu ... and adult milkshakes.

Bars

Barcelona Wine Bar (11-minute walk) is a favorite go-to for Spanish tapas and wines in a rustic setting including an outdoor patio around a fire pit. For something a little more casual (and crowded), Churchkey (6-minute walk) offers 555 hand-picked craft beers and American bites in what many consider to be the beer bar in town--if not the region.
