Why We Like It

This up-and-coming neighborhood doesn’t feel like sometimes staid DC. If you’re into a buzzy vibe with restaurants, baseball games and hanging out at the grassy park along the river, this is a great find. And when all is said and done, you’re only ten or so blocks from the Capitol—easily walkable.

Fodor's Expert Review

This newly refreshed, 14-floor hotel in the budding Yards Park area delivers with an on-site restaurant, indoor swimming pool and friendly staff. It’s the perfect option if you’re doing business on the Hill or Navy Yard, or attending a game at Nationals Park. There are plenty of hopping restaurants and bars in the area, and the award-winning park along the waterfront has lots of activities going on in summer, including Friday night concerts. Breakfast is available for a fee.

Room

Standard Courtyard rooms incorporate a gray-and-white palette with punches of mustard, with wood headboards and photos of DC iconic sights. You have your choice of a King with sofabed, two Queens, or a spacious suite.

Tip Some rooms have views over Nationals Ballpark (ask for the corner of L Street and New Jersey).

Bathroom

The standard Courtyard bathrooms have a shower/tub combo and feature Paul Mitchell bath products.

Lobby

This is not a quick pass-through. Furniture crowds the blue and orange lobby, offering plenty of places for quick meetings or hanging out. You also have a grab-and-go market for quick snacks, a Starbucks, a lounge area with a small bar and fireplace (where there always seems to be a crowd), and a GoBoard (a touchscreen concierge) to help plan your day.

You Should Know If you're counting on Starbucks for your caffeine fix, know that it's only open in the mornings and after 5. There's another one up the block, however.

Pool

There's a small indoor pool and whirlpool.

Spa

There is no spa.

Gym

The small fitness room has cardio equipment (treadmills, bike, stepper), free weights and a multi-station. Keep in mind there are good running trails in the area as well.

Dining

The Bistro on the hotel's second floor is a casual eatery featuring soups, salads, sandwiches, pizza and burgers; it's also open for breakfast, offering everything from classic oatmeal to morning scrambles to thick-cut French toast.

Tip On a warm evening order a takeaway meal and take it down to the riverside park.

Drinking

The Bistro serves wine, beer and cocktails as well.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Courtyard by Marriott Washington Capitol Hill/Navy Yard is located in a somewhat removed neighborhood from touristy DC, though the US Capitol is an easy 20-minute walk away. Parking is pricey; avoid bringing a car if possible. Your best bet for public transportation is the Metro, with the Navy Yard–Ballpark metro station less than a block away.

Restaurants

Bluejacket (7-minute walk) is a popular microbrewery and eatery in a century-old former factory. Another good choice in the Yards Park area is Agua 301 Restaurant (8-minute walk), serving Mexican food with river views.

Bars

Gordon Biersch (3-minute walk) offers house-brewed, German style beer and a pub menu. District Winery is an urban winery at Yards Park that produces small-batch wines; there's a good restaurant here, too, serving seasonal American fare.
