Georgetown with Kids

In nice weather the Waterfront Park and C&O Canal offer pleasant walks and picnic opportunities, and you can rent a kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddleboard from Key Bridge Boathouse. Take the family to Dumbarton Oaks, where kids can stretch their legs, admire the flowers, and cavort with nature. North of M Street at 27th you'll find the Rose Park "Tot Lot," complete with climbing frames and sandpit. Montrose Park to the north also has a playground.

Thomas Sweet, at 3214 P Street NW, is an old-fashioned ice-cream parlor famed for its dozens of ice-cream and frozen-yogurt flavors, plus candies, cookies, and ice-cream confections.
