Why We Like It

This part of town is where nearly all of Chicago's luxury lies but you don't have to pay five-star prices for this modern hotel with all the amenities you'll ever need--spacious rooms, a bar and a restaurant. While there isn't a pool or spa on site, you didn't come to Chicago to stay indoors, did you?

Fodor's Expert Review

In an often overlooked section of Chicago (Streeterville) just a half-block east of Michigan Avenue, and within walking distance of theaters, this 29-story hotel was converted from another brand in 2017. Stylish guest rooms are contemporary and comfy. The lobby features oversize seating and opens to BARISTA + BAR offering sit-down service from 6:30 a.m. to midnight as well as pastries to-go.

You Should Know At times the $68 nightly parking fee can be a good chunk of the off-season room rate--better to leave the car at home.

Room

Stylish but also cozy, the rooms feature patterned carpet as well as a city-skyline themed mural behind the custom-designed bed. City views are offered from most rooms. Those working on the road will appreciate the executive desk and ergonomic task chair. There are two room categories and two suite categories.

Tip Want to get breakfast dally at the hotel? Book the Breakfast Package, which tacks on a breakfast buffet for up to two people daily at no extra charge.

Bathroom

The walk-in, glass-door shower and Bluetooth-compatible lighted round mirror are nice modern perks in each bath. Walls are painted an orange-pink shade that's a refreshing change from the typical all-neutral bath.

Lobby

The ninth-floor lobby, with its vaulted wood-paneled ceiling and midcentury-modern furnishings, is where check-in occurs. There's plenty of seating to wait while your room is ready or check your email over coffee in the morning.

Dining

BARISTA + BAR offers, just like it sounds, coffee in the morning and alcoholic drinks at night, but also a diverse food menu from 6:30 a.m. to midnight. Seating is designed to evoke conversation--perfect if traveling in a small group--and arranged living-room style. On the food menu are eats (with elevated ingredients) like tacos, burgers, soups and a club sandwich.

Drinking

Pretty much anything you'd like to drink can be made and ordered at BARISTA + Bar--be sure to sip a Goose Island beer, one of the city's older and more established craft breweries.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

The hotel's Streeterville location--a newer part of downtown Chicago wedged between North Michigan Avenue's shops and restaurants and Lake Shore Drive which rims Lake Michigan and Navy Pier--puts you in a great spot. Shopping, dining, theater and museums are all within a 20-minute ride or walk. You don't need a car and can easily access public transportation via the Chicago L stop (at Chicago and State, a 7-minute walk from the hotel) or catch any of the buses running along North Michigan Avenue.

Restaurants

Giordano's (3-minute walk) is a delicious example of Chicago's deep-dish style pizza. Les Nomades around the corner (4-minute walk) is a delightful French restaurant offering dinner nightly except for Sunday and Monday.

Bars

Drinks at the Purple Pig (8-minute walk) are inventive and so is the food--order a cocktail and shareable small plates for dinner to share. Tiki drinks at Three Dots and a Dash (16-minute walk) are served in an atmosphere reminiscent of a neighborhood bar, but close to the downtown's theaters and museums.
