Restaurants, bars, and boutiques are sprinkled throughout Virginia-Highland, northeast of Midtown. Like Midtown, this residential area was down-at-the-heels in the 1970s. Reclaimed by writers, artists, and a few visionary developers, Virginia-Highland (as well as bordering Morningside) is a great place to explore. To the east, the Emory University area is studded with enviable mansions. Near the Emory campus is Druid Hills, used for film locations for Driving Miss Daisy by local playwright Alfred Uhry. The neighborhood was designed by the firm of Frederick Law Olmsted, which also landscaped Asheville's Biltmore Estate and New York's Central Park.
