Why We Like It

The Ellis Hotel more than makes up for their lack of a pool with thoughtful offerings to make their guests feel both safe and cared for. The private-access Fresh Air Floor featuring sealed mattresses and pillows and air filtering machines in guest rooms and hallways, plus the private-access Women's Only floor are hospitality options unlike anything else in Atlanta. The cherry on top is complimentary Wi-Fi, a surprisingly hard amenity to find in downtown Atlanta hotels.

Fodor's Expert Review

A chic lobby, handpicked modern furnishings, and thoughtful in-room touches are the hallmark of this boutique hotel that provides Southern hospitality in a restored 1913 historic landmark. The hotel has a number of unique features, like a women's-only floor, which provides secure entry and amenities like curling and straightening irons, and a wellness room outfitted with hypoallergenic and magnetic field bedding, alkaline water for sipping, and filtered water with microbubbles in the shower. The MARTA station is across the street, and the city's top attractions are just 10 minutes away.

Tip Traveling with a pup? Book a room on the dog-friendly floor where your dog will receive a complimentary Ellis logo neck bandana or courtesy travel food bowl, and you'll get a map of nearby pet-friendly restaurants, dog parks and doggy daycares. Your furry friend must be 30 pounds or under.

Room

There are 127 guest rooms, including 12 premium doubles with two double beds and living areas with sofa beds, and one large premium suite with a King size bed and private parlor with wet bar. Each of the rooms has pillow-top mattresses (with your choice of feather or foam pillows), flat-screen televisions, and free Wi-Fi.

You Should Know For allergy-conscious guests, the Ellis offers a Wellness Room with state-of-the-art wellness technology, but there's literally only one room like this so you'll have to book in advance. Amenities include a Magnetic mattress topper with hypoallergenic natural fibers, a KenkoAir Purifier that's more advanced than standard HEPA purifiers and a PiMag Waterfall System for purified, ionized, alkalinized and mineralized water and more.

Bathroom

Bathrooms are appointed with natural limestone floors and walls, Kohler shower heads and granite countertops. The hotel uses Gilchrest and Soames bath products.

Lobby

The hotel lobby is small but chic, with an inviting seating area made up of a royal blue velvet couch, oversized gray chairs and potted orchids. Three large windows to the right fill the space with natural light, and there's a discreet key drop near the exit for those that wish to skip a formal check out.

Gym

The recently expanded 24-hour fitness center has everything you need to maintain your workout on the road: a spin cycle, elliptical, treadmills, an FTS Glide Machine, stability and weighted medicine balls, free weights, exercise mats and towels.

Dining

Breakfast options range from the hot or cold buffet at the Terrace Bistro lobby restaurant, to room service, a grab and go box with to-go coffee and an a la carte menu of frittatas, waffles, pancakes and omelets. Lunch and dinner are again at the organic, farm-to-table Terrace Bistro for southern-tinged dishes like jumbo lump crab cakes with tomato corn relish and cider-brined fried chicken with Yukon potato mash.

Drinking

Grab a glass of wine or cocktail at Terrace Bistro Lounge and enjoy it alfresco on the patio overlooking Peachtree Street.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

For drivers, valet parking with the hotel is your best bet because of unlimited in & out privledges for $35 bucks a night. There is no self park option. There are plenty of garages nearby, but you run the risk of paying for two days instead of one in a 24 hour period when garages reset their rates first thing in the morning. Otherwise, the hotel's downtown location is highly walkable to restaurants, attractions and athletic arenas. Also, the Peachtree Center MARTA Station is next door and an Atlanta Streetcar Stop is directly across the street.

Restaurants

Finding great Chinese food on the road can be a harrowing adventure, but Hsu's at Peachtree Center (4-min walk) has been Atlanta's top spot for authentic Chinese cuisine since 1983. Spruce up for a night at AG, (1-min walk) the modern and plush steakhouse within the Ritz-Carlton Atlanta, for seared meat and seafood and regionally-sourced produce.

Bars

Downtown Atlanta is jam-packed with hotels, including some pretty swanky hotel bars. Head to Lumen, the lobby bar inside the Ritz Carlton for creative cocktails and live music Tuesday through Saturday. If hotel bars aren't your thing, try your luck getting into the super secret speakeasy Red Phone Booth, where you'll need the secret code to enter the bar through the (you guessed it) red British telephone booth. Ask the concierge at the Ellis for the password.
