Sure, their fully equipped vacation owner rentals are spacious and comfy with kitchens, but it’s all about the location at The Banyan. Waltz right out your door and there you are--one block from Duval on a pretty back street. The resort's Caribbean-style buildings with their clapboard exteriors, painted shutters, and white picket railings make for a picturesque scene, add their ginormous Banyan tree to the picture and you've got a postcard to post on Instagram.

You Should Know Assigned parking is first-come-first-served at $20 a day. There are local lots if you snooze-and-lose. You’ll also pay $5 a day for an energy/green fee.

Room

Studio, one- or-two bedrooms are offered. All have hardwood floors and an updated kitchen with with granite counters and stainless steel appliances. While décor will vary a bit on room choice, overall it’s subdued tropical, with dark wood and rattan furnishings.

You Should Know If you’re an avid TV watcher, you may be disappointed because some of the units have the living room TV in odd places, like above the refrigerator.

Bathroom

Bathrooms are updated in today’s style with taupe tile, marble top vanities, cream-painted walls, glass showers, and pretty framed mirrors, bath and shower amenities are provided.

You Should Know Some complain about the water pressure but that’s probably because the resort is Green Certified and their faucets and such are low flow.

Lobby

Check-in is at the main Delaney house, right behind the resort’s sign. Just walk right in the front door. It’s small, efficient and a nice welcome to paradise.

Pool

Two pools, one for families, one for adults. The family pool is the larger of the two with lush vegetation and a decking made from recycled plastic. Both have aluminum-style loungers. There’s also a in-ground Jacuzzi in the back of the property.

Tip For sunning, head to the adult pool.

They have a small, welcoming and newly updated tiki bar by the pool that is open for breakfast and lunch (it closes around 4 p.m.). There are bar stools, tables and chairs, colorful umbrellas, and you can get things like breakfast sandwiches and grilled-to-order items like burgers and more.

Tip This is an affordable place for a relaxing bite. Spend time here and try the fish sandwich.

Drinking

If you haven't been lately, it's been redone, but it's still secretly tucked away between the foliage and the pools. There's even a small TV so you can catch the game.

Tip Tropical drinks are a specialty, like their mango colada.

Grounds

Lush and lovely, the grounds are a big part of The Banyan’s overall appeal. Concrete and tiled pathways, enormous banyans and palm trees, a grilling area, the poolside Tiki bar--exploring yields magnificent rewards.

Getting Around

Leave your car parked in the tight lot at The Banyan and walk, walk, walk! This is the big benefit of staying at here, so take advantage. When you wear your soles out, rent a bike from the front desk, take a taxi or flag down a pedi-cab.

Restaurants

Café Solé (16-minute walk) is a great place for a Sunday Brunch with European flair. Camille’s (17-minute walk) is where locals and visitors line up for the island’s best crab cake benedict. For scary good sangria and small plates of outrageous deliciousness, Santiago’s Bodega (10-minute walk) is an absolute must. Reservations necessary.

Bars

Irish Kevin’s (4-minute walk) features live music, pub food and lots of festive partiers who love to sing along with the band. Island Dogs (5-minute walk) has good burgers and live music in a simple, casual atmosphere. It’s a bar, a fabulous seafood restaurant (get the tuna dip!), and it’s where world-class musicians come to play--it’s the Smokin’ Tuna Saloon (3-minute walk).
