The drive from Glenwood Springs at the northwest tip of the Roaring Fork Valley to Aspen is less than an hour, making it easy for visitors to set up a base camp, with convenient access to area activities anywhere along "the valley." Carbondale offers local flavor as well as accommodations that are centrally located between the larger towns of Glenwood Springs and Aspen. Snowmass and Aspen are closest to the mountains for winter skiing, but Sunlight Mountain Resort near Glenwood Springs is a less crowded, budget-friendly winter wonderland.
