Bus and Train Travel

The Metropolitan Transit System covers the city of San Diego up to Del Mar.

Buses and trains operated by North County Transit District (NCTD) serve all coastal communities in San Diego County, going as far east as Escondido; the NCTD Sprinter runs a commuter service between Oceanside and Escondido. Routes are coordinated with other transit agencies serving San Diego County. Amtrak stops in Solana Beach, Oceanside, and Downtown San Diego.

Coaster operates commuter rail service between San Diego and Oceanside, stopping en route in Old Town, Sorrento Valley, Solana Beach, Encinitas, and Carlsbad. The last Coaster train leaves San Diego at about 7 each night. NCTD's bus system, Breeze, serves North County; for on-demand service they offer Flex, and door-to-door paratransit service on Lift.
