Why We Like It

It feels like desert island living, both in design and in location. Don’t fret though, the location is still great as you’re smack dab in the middle of the city with major thoroughfares to get you anywhere quickly (traffic pending). But this chic 50s style haven is known for its pool, its restaurant, its bar, and its attention to detail when it comes to service. The staff here knows how to treat its guests and that won’t be lost on you with its array of amenities.

Fodor's Expert Review

The Avalon Hotel is everything you’d imagine a swanky Beverly Hills joint would look like in the Golden Age of Hollywood. Balcony-laden rooms surround a bulbous pool where chic travelers post up for meals, drinks, and sun tanning. This mid-century modern beaut is clad in white and teal tones and gives guests an oasis feeling while still being in the middle of the city.

Room

Hardwood floors are bathed in natural light that accentuates the muted white and teal curtains and furnishings. The simply styled rooms come with KeyPR Tablets that controls everything from room service to local restaurant suggestions.

Tip Request turndown service and you’ll be surprised with chocolates and bottles of water.

Bathroom

The bathrooms are awash in marble and giant mirrors. Walk-in showers are standard, as are Momo bath products.

Lobby

There isn’t much of a lobby--in that there’s no real hangout spot. But beyond the front desk is the signature hotel restaurant Viviane and of course the pool which is central to the property.

Pool

The center of all things Avalon, the stunning pool is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and offers full food and beverage service. You’ll often find hotel guests lounging with laptops or sipping on Sazerac’s.

Spa

There’s no spa, but the hotel offers a variety of in-room massage services.

Gym

The Avalon Wellness Studio is equipped with Life Fitness machines, free weights, water, and apples. The hotel also offers a variety of one-on-one services including yoga and weight training.

Tip The hotel has complimentary bikes that make it easier to get to restaurants and shops.

Dining

Viviane offers guests California-cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The restaurant wraps around the front of the hotel and also has pool-side seating, perfect on breezy LA days.

Drinking

The bar at Viviane gets busy with both guests and locals, especially around their happy hour from Monday to Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The bartenders specialize in 1950s classic drinks (don’t forget to tip).

What's Nearby

Getting Around

If you decide to rent a car, parking here will run you between $38-$45. Luckily, it’s always easy to flag an Uber or Lyft ride. Better yet, take the hotel’s complimentary car to get you around the immediate vicinity. As for walking, there are tons of restaurants, shops, bars, and attractions nearby, but most will take you 15-20 minutes to get to.

Restaurants

Sotto (7-minute walk) is a salivatingly good Italian restaurant with perfect pizzas. Urth Caffé (6-minute walk) is a hyper trendy coffeeshop with great eats and better people-watching (you’ll often see paparazzi parked outside waiting for a celeb shot).

Bars

There is a dearth of good bars in this area, but if you make your way up to Beverly Hills proper, you can snag casual drinks at Honor Bar (15-minute walk) or secret whiskeys inside the Montage Hotel at £10 (15-minute walk).
