AJ Mine Gastineau Mill Tour. Former miners lead two-hour tours of the historic AJ Gold Mine south of Juneau. The tours, which depart from downtown by bus, include a gold-panning demonstration and time in the old tunnels that lace the mountains. Juneau Convention and Visitors Bureau. The bureau maintains a list of companies that conduct tours of Mendenhall Glacier, and others that provide boat trips to Tracy Arm's Sawyer Glacier, about 50 miles southeast of Juneau. The recently opened Juneau Visitors Center, next to the Mt.
