Enjoying Shellfish
Prince Edward Island shellfish has a reputation for being among the world's best. Mollusks and crustaceans are harvested all along the coast, so you can spot fishermen in shallow boats scooping up oysters with what look like giant salad servers. Moreover, you can see rows of buoys in bays and estuaries holding up lines covered with mussels, plus solo buoys securing the lobster traps that wait to be hauled offshore. Obviously, you’ll see shellfish on almost every Island menu, too, as well as on many activity rosters: tour operators are taking increasing numbers of visitors out to trap, haul, tong, and shuck. Shellfish also pops up on festival calendars.
