Fodor's Expert Review Cuatrocuatros
Carretera Transpeninsular, Km 89, Ensenada, Baja California Norte, Mexico
Situated among vineyards is this peaceful settlement of 17 luxury tents with creature comforts like air-conditioning, a minibar, fireplace, king-size beds, and private sundecks, plus access to a growing number of on-site activities including a winery, beach club, zipline tours, and horseback riding. Each has a sauna-like bathroom complete with rain showerheads, organic bath products, and sliding glass doors that flood natural light into the extended area of the massive tents (called cabañas). This is no typical camping experience, since each unit has Wi-Fi, recessed lighting, power outlets, and country touches like cowhide rugs and wood plank headboards. Guests can explore the vineyards by mountain bike or horse, and can visit the property’s private beach accessible by way of 300 steps to a small cove. Other perks include wine tasting, sailing tours, and their hilltop bar, Bura, that can be reached by shuttle. Marking the entrance to the property are 100-year-old shrimping boats impressively raised on stilts.
PROS
- the ultimate in Baja "glamping"
- great views from hilltop beach club
- private beach
CONS
- 15 minutes from town
- restaurant closes at 6 pm and front desk at 8 pm
- tents beginning to show some wear
