Fodor's Expert Review Hala Mantı

$ Beyoğlu Turkish

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

As its name suggests, this homey restaurant on a side street not far from İstiklal Caddesi specializes in ravioli-like mantı (small pockets of pasta filled with ground meat); hingal (a variation eaten in the Caucasus with a cheese-and-potato filling) is also served. Gözleme (a type of very thin flatbread filled with ingredients such as cheese and spinach) is cooked on a huge griddle as you watch and very good here; other options include tasty home-style soups and vegetable and meat dishes.
