Fodor's Expert Review St. Columba Hotel
Next to cathedral, Iona, Argyll and Bute, PA76 6SL, Scotland
As befits a religious retreat, rooms in this 1846 minister's home are simple to the point of being spartan, but those in the front make up for it with glorious views across the Sound of Iona to Mull. It's an eco-friendly place, so (at least in summer) your hot water comes from the rooftop solar panels.
PROS
- impressive views
- nice log fires
- eco-friendly
CONS
- pretty expensive for what is essentially a religious hostel
- few home comforts
- basic meals
