Hotels

There are plenty of high-quality accommodations in the western reaches of the Beiras, but the options thin the farther inland you move; make reservations well in advance if you plan to travel during the busy summer months. That said, the Beiras has a great variety of lodging choices, ranging from venerable old luxury hotels to hip, modern hostels. The pousadas (inns that are members of the Turismo de Habitação organization) here make perfect bases for exploring the entire region. In addition, there are Solares de Portugal lodgings, which are family-owned and -run and can range from mansions to cottages. Most establishments offer substantial off-season discounts. (High season varies by hotel but generally runs July 1–September 15.)
