NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky
Dam 9, Amsterdam, North Holland 1012 JS, The NetherlandsWhy We Like It
This Belle Epoque landmark on Amsterdam’s most important square puts you in the center of all the action, with good business facilities and an excellent cocktail bar where you can wind down after work.
Fodor's Expert Review
While you can still inhale a true Belle Epoque atmosphere in some of the hotel’s public areas, including the soaringly beautiful Wintertuin ("Winter Garden") and stuccoed and gilded The White Room restaurant, most of this Dam Square landmark’s interior is completely modern in style.
Tip Ask for a central room if you’re particularly noise sensitive. Remember, you’re bang in the busy center of the city.

Room
While certainly comfortable and large by Amsterdam standards, the décor is not particularly memorable. All rooms have good desks, free Wi-Fi, and large flat-screen TVs. Larger rooms and suites have Nespresso coffee makers.
You Should Know Some rooms offer unparalleled vistas of Dam Square and the Royal Palace, but others have uninspiring views.
Bathroom
Very nice indeed! Sand colored vanities offer plenty of counter space, and are kitted out with twin sinks and good shaving mirrors. While some still feature the dreaded shower-in-bath combo, others have spacious walk-in rain showers with separate adjustable shower heads, towel heaters and a generous selection of NH amenities.
Lobby
Large and busy, with a businesslike burgundy, black and white color scheme, this is a lobby to breeze through on your way to the brilliant bar.
Gym
There’s a well-equipped gym where you can sweat out all those indulgences.
Dining
The White Room, the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, which is set in a stunning stuccoed room, was awarded a Michelin star in December 2017. A buffet breakfast is served in the monumental 19th-century Winter Garden, a masterpiece of 19th-century allure with a greenhouse roof, potted palms and Victorian chandeliers.
Drinking
Named after the original profession of hotel founder Wilhelm Krasnapolsky The Tailor is the home base of “Best Female Bartender Worldwide 2015” Tess Posthumus, whose “bespoke cocktails” include the well-constructed “Cuban Mist” with rum, apricot liqueur, tobacco bitters and Serrano ham served in a smoke-filled glass cloche. The stylish bar was awarded the prestigious “Red & Grey Best Hotel Bar Award Amsterdam 2017”.
