Why We Like It

Hotel Bucintoro’s boating theme is fun, and its water views can’t be beat. Plus its off-the-beaten-path location is ideal for those who don’t want to be right in the thick of things but still have relatively easy access to St. Mark’s when they want it. And when the Biennale is on, the location is tops. All aboard!

Fodor's Expert Review

Staying at the unique Hotel Bucintoro is like overnighting in a yacht (thankfully, without the sea sickness): All rooms are nautical-themed, many with phenomenal views of the lagoon and St. Mark’s Basin. The hotel’s location near Arsenale is super quiet, plus very convenient for the Venice Bienniale’s Arsenale and Giardino venues. It’s also a lovely walk alongside the Riva degli Schiavoni or a short boat ride to reach San Marco.

You Should Know The location in eastern Venice may feel too far removed from the center to some.

Room

Guest rooms are wood-paneled, with hardwood floors, brass detailing, and pictures of sailboats on the walls.

Tip Since some rooms can be on the small side (again, just like on a real yacht), for the most comfort, go for the highest category you can swing.

Bathroom

Elegant marble bathrooms come with either showers or combo shower/tubs.

Lobby

The compact wood-paneled lobby is more a place for checking in rather than hanging out.

Dining

Hotel Bucintoro lacks a restaurant, but an included buffet breakfast is served each morning in the charming heavy-on-the-wood breakfast room.

Drinking

There’s a small bar where guests can enjoy a mixed drink in the evening.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

The Arsenale vaporetto stop is only 2 minutes away from the hotel, making it super simple to sail around Venice. Otherwise, just to the west is the waterfront (and often tourist-clogged) Riva degli Schiavoni promenade, which runs all the way over to St. Mark’s.

Restaurants

The classic Venetian recipes at Al Covo (4-minute walk) have won over diners for years. A cozy place with ultra-modern and affordable tasting menus paired with unusual wines, CoVino (5-minute walk) makes a great stop for lunch or dinner. Il Ridotto (11-minute walk) is one of the tastiest modern Italian eateries in town, with innovative dishes and a great wine list.

Bars

El Rèfolo (3-minute walk) pairs wine and beer with charcuterie and cheeses in a lively outdoor atmosphere. The wine bar Aciugheta (12-minute walk) specializes in cicchetti (bar snacks)—don’t miss the anchovy (aciugheta) minipizzas—paired with a large selection of local vinos.
