Fodor's Expert Review Old Barracks Heritage Centre

Cahirciveen

Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.

The converted former barracks of the Royal Irish Constabulary, an imposing, fortress like structure (built after the Fenian Rising of 1867 to suppress further revolts) now houses this museum. Well-designed displays depict scenes from times of famine, the life of Daniel O'Connell, and the restoration of this fine building from a blackened ruin.
