Letterkenny, like Donegal to the south, is at the gateway to the far Northwest; you're likely to come through here if you're driving west out of Northern Ireland. Letterkenny's claim to fame has been that it has the longest main street in the whole country, but it's also a bustling, modest-size Irish town with family-run shops, and a good place to get a sense of the warm local identity.
