Fodor's Expert Review Við Tjörnina - OMIT

$$$$ Reykjavík Seafood

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Opened in 1986, this was the first Icelandic restaurant to specialize in seafood, though it sells meat now, too. Visitors enter through a classic wooden doorway and go up a flight of stairs and back in time in this early-20th-century house with a hand-carved bar and chairs, embroidered tablecloths, and crocheted drapes. The baked salted cod with smoked pork belly is a perennial favorite, though if you're feeling adventurous, try the three- or four-course surprise menu.
