Molyvos

Also known by its ancient name, Mythimna, this is a place that has attracted people since antiquity. Legend says that Achilles besieged the town until the king's daughter fell for him and opened the gates; then Achilles killed her. Before 1923, Turks made up about a third of the population, living in many of the best stone houses. Today these balconied buildings are bulging with potted plants and woven together with floriferous climbing plants. Notice the red-tile roofs and cobblestone streets—they're required by law, making the village so breathtakingly picturesque that it's become a home to many artists attracted by its charms. As the sun sets, don't miss a walk down to the picture-perfect harborfront, whose bobbing boats and twinkling lights are completely enchanting.
