Fodor's Expert Review Hotel Nassauer Hof

Kaiser-Friedrich-Pl. 3–4, Wiesbaden, Hesse, 65183, Germany

Situated opposite the Kurhaus, Wiesbaden's premier address for well over a century—and the first hotel in Germany to be awarded five stars—is home to three restaurants, including the gorgeous Orangerie for breakfast, and Wiesbaden's only Michelin-starred restaurant, the Ente. There's also a luxurious spa and beauty treatment space that has Germany's only rooftop thermal pool. The rooms and suites are quiet, comfortable, and though classically furnished; they're equipped with all mod cons, from Wi-Fi to a tablet for ordering room service. Built in 1813, the Nassauer Hof's previous guests have included Dostoyevsky, John F. Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn, and the Dalai Lama.

  • excellent service
  • Germany's only rooftop thermal pool
  • well-equipped gym with a view of the city

CONS

  • the cigar lounge can get very smoky
  • expensive breakfast not included
  • some rooms feel a little dated
