Fodor's Expert Review Rattenfängerhaus

$ Hameln German

Editor's Note: This location is reported to be under new ownership and therefore this review may contain inaccuracies.

This brilliant example of Weser Renaissance architecture is Hamelin's most famous building, where the Pied Piper supposedly stayed during his rat-extermination assignment (it wasn't actually built until centuries after his supposed exploits). "Rats" are all over the menu, from the "rat-killer liqueur" to a "rat-tail flambé," but don't be put off by the names: the traditional dishes are excellent.
