Why We Like It

The "comme chez vous" atmosphere of this small intimate hotel, like the classy service, puts you right at ease, something one doesn't take lightly when traveling. Some like to think of this as their personal "secret" and we can understand why, given the quite, calm, and genuine friendliness of the place.

Fodor's Expert Review

This pleasant six-story boutique hotel sits on a tranquil single-block street just steps from the Jardin du Luxembourg and Montparnasse's lively cafés and brasseries. The British-inspired decor is homey, without an ounce of chintz in sight, though throw pillows, plush sofas and knick-knacks add to the relaxed atmosphere and abstract paintings create a pleasing contemporary vibe.

You Should Know The hotel is on a quiet street, but quite close to busy Blvd. Raspail, a main Paris thoroughfare. The management has taken great care to soundproof the hotel.

Room

The British aesthetic, refreshingly fearless when it comes to color, extends to rooms, which are cozy and inviting, done in pleasing shades accented with pillows, carpets, and curtains in deeper hues. Standard rooms are small, but suites are quite roomy and can be conjoined for families.

Tip Junior suites have small balconies with charming views. If an upgrade is in your budget, do it (or ask and see what happens!).

Bathroom

Roomy, bright and well-equipped, with contemporary fixtures and top-notch toiletries.

Lobby

The lobby and breakfast area are bathed in light, showcasing a wood-fire hearth, plump sofas, and Greek Revival columns that together create a welcoming atmosphere from the moment you step foot in the hotel.

Dining

You can choose from an à la carte menu (a little extra) or go with a fine continental breakfast with all the usual suspects, including fresh juices, charcuterie and cheeses.

Drinking

A charming bar area helps guests justify their desire to linger in the cozy lobby.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

A few minutes from the Vavin metro station, and the Port Royal RER, servicing both airports. If you love Saint-Germain-des-Prés, and honestly, who doesn't, this is a great choice that reflects the low-key but high-end vibe of this most Parisian of Left Bank neighborhoods. Being so close the the Jardin de Luxembourg is always an advantage, and in this case, you've got lively Montparnasse at your fingertips too, making shopping, dining, and nightlife ever so easy. Plus, you're close to lots of sights, including the Catacombs and Montparnasse cemetery, the permanent home of many distinguished Parisians.

Restaurants

This is Paris's brasserie central, home to some of its legendary institutions, including La Coupole, which is great for a drink, and Le Dôme, where heaping platters of jumbo shrimp, clams, oysters, and langoustine sit atop a mound of ice and the white-aproned waiters haven't changed a bit since Hemingway dined here.

Bars

Another of Hemingway's watering holes (it would take a week to cover them all), along with a long list of other famous creative types, La Closerie des Lilas is a fun place to stop in for a glass of wine enjoyed at the piano bar. A bar snack or two, yes, but the food is a bit pricey for what it is, so you're better off stopping in before or after a meal elsewhere. You will find no lack of lively cafés for a drink in the evening, but if you're set on cocktails, the Prescription Cocktail Club across the park on Rue Mazarine, is always good for a satisfying pour.
