Why We Like It
The Pilgrm goes easy on amenities — and that includes in-room extras — but that’s all part of its pared back approach. The extravagance here is in the look. We like the fact that guests will feel like they’re part of an interior magazine set, even if the bathrooms and rooms could be bigger. Rooms are affordable and the Paddington location puts you within convenient distance of the sights of central London with the benefit of a major train station just a short walk away. It will mostly appeal to a hip clientele inclined to leave the kids at home.

Like stepping into the pages of Kinfolk magazine, the Pilgrm is a minimalist, design hotel styled to within an inch of its life. Lovers of thrift stores, vinyl records and pared back luxury will appreciate the attention to detail here where craftsmanship and care are the buzzwords more than backed up by stunning rooms and public spaces decorated in beautiful mid-century modern style. Conveniently located close to Paddington Station, guests should arrive with Monocle magazines tucked under their arms to fit right in.
Tip If amenities are top of your list of priorities then think again, some rooms come without TVs so bring your own iPad if you can.

Room
While even the largest room at the Pilrm is hardly huge, good things come in small packages and in this case, the good thing is the level of attention paid to the décor. The beautiful parquet floor is part of the appeal of rooms that pair mid-century modern furniture with industrial flourishes to create a deluxe home interior look that many will want to take home with them.
You Should Know Bunk bed rooms are perfect for friends to share but are extremely small.
Bathroom
Almost a part of the bedroom themselves, in some rooms bathroom facilities are hidden behind a sliding door, which means cramped conditions when using the walk-in shower. Still, the clean, modern subway tile look is very attractive provided you don’t need much elbow room to brush your teeth.
Lobby
Making the right impression, the small lobby here is as carefully styled as the rest of the building. Don’t be put off by the overpowering whiff of standoffish style given off by that parquet floor, the dark walls and the trendy hanging plants, the service comes with a smile.
Dining
Like walking into the reception of an interior design studio or a vintage furniture showroom, the plush velvet cocktail chairs, leather sofas and polished parquet floor are almost enough for you to give the food a pass however it tastes, such is the appeal of the look. Fortunately, the simple menu in the lounge restaurant is full of appealing morsels.
Drinking
Classic cocktails, wine and beers are all served in the Pilgrm’s comfortable lounge.

Getting Around
Located in the center of Paddington, the neighbourhood borders both Marylebone and Mayfair, with just a short walk taking you to Hyde Park. The area is on the up and features some of the best historic backstreets to explore, along with independent coffee shops, shops and traditional pubs. Paddington Station is great for national connections as well as the Tube. Taxis and Ubers are readily available given the proximity to the station.
Restaurants
You like parquet floors, then get thee to the Grazing Goat (17-minute walk), a pub and restaurant decked out in a similar style to The Pilgrm where you can eat big portions of classic British dishes. If you’re in search of something different head to Maroush (13-minute walk) for London’s original Lebanese restaurant.
Bars
A lovely old-fashioned boozer, The Victoria (5-minute walk) is a must-visit for anybody who values the combination of beer and Victorian charm. It may not be right on the doorstep, but the journey to Purl (25-minute walk) is worth making to experience the drinks at this Prohibition style speakeasy bar.
