Fodor's Expert Review Nuyorican Café
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Something interesting happens nearly every night (it's closed Monday and Tuesday) at this hipper-than-hip, no-frills, wood-paneled performance space. It might be an early-evening play, poetry reading, or talent show, or, later on, a band playing Latin jazz, Cuban son, Puerto Rican salsa, or rock. On Wednesday night, the owner plays the conga drums with the house salsa band, Comborican; during set breaks, the youthful, creative crowd chats in an alley outside. There is usually a $5 cover.
