Fodor's Expert Review Al Ebanks Studio Gallery
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
This gallery shows the eponymous artist's versatile, always provocative work in various media. Because you're walking into his home as well as atelier, everything is on display. Clever movable panels maximize space "like art Murphy beds." His work, while inspired by his home, could never be labeled traditional Caribbean art, exhibiting vigorous movement through abstract swirls of color and textural contrasts. Though nonrepresentational (save for his equally intriguing sculpture and ceramics), the focal subject from carnivals to iguanas is always subtly apparent. Ask him about the Native Sons art movement he cofounded.
