From Ban Sop Ruak you can travel west on a dusty road to Mae Sai, a Thai-Burmese border town that straddles the Mae Sai River. The market that nestles next to the border bridge is packed with jewelry stalls, where the careful buyer can find some bargains, including rubies and jade from Myanmar. The cross-border trip is the town's main tourist attraction, though.
