A ferry transports you to this former maharaja's hunting lodge, an enormous, red-tiled roof heritage bungalow, located on an island inside the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can spot wildlife from your balcony. Now run by the Kerala state government tourist department, the six simple but very large rooms are decked out with period furniture and offer views of the palm-lined pathway and beyond to the lake and wildlife preserve.
