Baggage

Hi all we are leaving tomorrow and I'm confused about my baggage. We arrive in Porto, Portugal from the U.S on United. We have a layover of 6 hrs 😭 then will take Vueling to Bilbao Spain. We will have a checked bag.
Do we have to get our bag at the carousel and then re-check the bags? If yes, will they allow us to do this 6 hrs in advance?
Thanks!

Are the flights on one booking or two?

Kind of strange routing for one ticket. You'd think Iberia or one of it's partners would fly you to Madrid. So I'm guessing two tickets. Right?

If it's two tickets you'll need to deal with all the usual stuff. Get your bag. Customs. Exit the secure area. Find the desk. Drop the bag. Head back to security. You say we. If one person can handle the checked bag the other(s) can stay with the carry ons airside. That would make clearing security easier.

But six hours is a LONG time. Unless your first flight is extremely delayed you shouldn't have a problem.

Not sure about Porto -- but the one time I flew Vueling (out of MAD) check-in/bag drop opened 2.5 hours pre-flight. I don't normally check bags but my friend did si I did as well since carrying on wouldn't save us any time.

the Vueling website probably has the info you need . . .

Thanks all....as it turns out yes you need to go through customs get your bag and re-enter. No check in till 2 hrs before flight. But......my luggage was left in Newark anyway 😕 🤣🤣🤣
