Parking for a morning in Luxembourg City

As part of a longer road trip, we're considering spending a morning in Luxembourg City. It wasn't part of our original itinerary but we noticed that it wasn't much out of our way as we go from Trier, Germany to Metz, France. From the research I've done so far it appears that it may be best to do a park and ride, but I'm wondering if the logistics will be worth it for a stop of just a half a day. It would be a weekday morning and it sounds like parking and traffic can be a mess.

Can anyone offer any insight on this? Thanks!

Pubic transport is free in the whole country, unless you want 1st class.
