Thailand…Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai

Is the first week in November a good time to visit?

Weather, amount of tourists, local holidays, etc. to consider

Looks like a good time to visit. Thanks for the posts.

I kind of wish we would be there for the lanterns in the sky but from what I can tell it will be after we leave.

November is a great time to visit Thailand, including all these cities. The weather is pleasant, with low humidity and cool temperatures. It is a great time to explore the destination and experience outdoor activities. In November, a moderate number of travelers visit Thailand. About local festivities, the lovely Loy Krathong festival, which typically takes place in November, consists of people floating painted baskets over the water as a sign of respect for the river goddess. You can witness this festival in Chiang Mai. All things considered, the first week of November is the best time to visit Thailand, especially Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai, because it provides an ideal mix of pleasant weather, reasonable crowds, and the opportunity to take part in local celebrations.

TPAYT, how long will your trip be? We want to visit SE Asia, too, including Thailand, but don't know yet if we will do several separate trips or one big trip.

KarenWoo…..we will have 3 nights in Bangkok, fly to Chiang Mai for 3 nights, drive to Chiang Rai for 2 nights, then fly back to Bangkok for 1 night before flight home.

I would have liked to include some of the islands but I guess I’ll have to save that for another trip.

Am not a slow traveler like others on this forum, but I found spending my first 6 days in Bangkok to be just right. That included day trips to Ayutthaya and Kanchanaburi. The first couple of nights I was struggling to stay awake until it was time to go to bed - at 9PM.

Yes, the flight is long, time difference great, so jet lag to be considered.

Having done Africa 2 yrs.ago with ease, I’m not too anxious about dealing with Thailand. Plus our travel agent goes with us and takes care of everything so no major decisions to make. I think this trip will be 9 of us.
