Hi, Janis - June 22 and 23d, departing June 24. As to budget, I'd prefer middle of the road, but willing to pay more for convenience. Like proximity to city centre, bus & train stations. I originally booked Red Mullions Guest House then realized it was 38 minutes from the city centre.

Everyone's 'road' is different -- we would need an actual number -- preferably in £ but $ works

And re bilboburgler's link -- apparently there is no availability on 22 June anywhere in the system. At this very late date you may be better off just keeping your current booking. Or plug your dates into booking.com to see if anyplace has availability.

Didn't see your last post.
$250-$300 is £200-£240-ish which would be doable -- but more than likely anyplace we could recommend is probably booked up. At this point I'd plug my dates into booking.com to see what open

Exactly - - and then what you can do is branch off a little from center, and find something right by a bus stop. The maps on Booking.com show the bus stops, and if you pick a main artery like Abdington Rd. (as below, close to the Whitehouse Road bus stop, 2 stops from center) - - although these two days are already super booked up (as shown in the availability map below from Booking.com) you could find something well rated and reasonable like the one by the blue arrow .

The hotel the OP originally booked is right at a bus stop in Headington so pretty convenient. Per the website it is a mere 10 minute bus ride (the 35 mins she quotes is walking into the very centre of town . . .)
I honestly think it is probably about as good as she can hope for . . .

Head of the River has availability on your dates and is within your price range Decent rating on booking.com and much more convenient for the city centre than your original choice and close to the river.

Janis was right - when I looked at Google maps to check distance from Red Mullions to City Centre, I somehow got on walking mode...by bus it's only 10 minutes or so, and there's a bus right in front of the Red Mullions. They have very good ratings so after all the searching for a closer place, I didn't find anything that looked that much better so I'm going to stick with the original plan. Thanks for all your help! Having the benefit of everyone's experience is an enormous help!!
